1. Called Ed Braswell, Chief Counsel,
Senate Armed Services Uommittee, to alert him to the status of our
disposal of Southern Air Transport.
2, Talked to Ed Braswell, Chief Counsel,
Senate Armed Services Committee, and Guy McConnell, Senate Appropriations
Committee staff, about the possibility of a very highly regarded Agency
employee who may be interested in a position on the Hill.

3. olonel Hammond, in the office of Assistant
Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs John Marsh, called to say that
Representative Lester Wolff (D., N.Y. ) had talked with Marsh about the
scheduled appearance of Sam Adams on the Hill and Marsh wanted to let us
know in the event there was some information regarding Adams we wished
to pass on to Wolff. I told Hammond we had been in touch with the Foreign
Affairs Committee staff members about Adams' appearance before the
Asian and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee and preferred not to take any
initiative with Representative Wolff unless there were other factors which
we should know about. Hammond said he felt this was a sound position under
the circumstances and suggested we let it ride u:,iless he called me again.
I pointed out to Hammond, however, that Adams was no longer employed
a call from him on this.
4. (Secret - GLC) After talking with Messrs. SB
Division, and Mn CI Staff, I contacted Richard ere, Senate
Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations staff, and advised him of our
interest in a recent Soviet emigre. See Memorandum for the Record.
I told Perle I would be in touch with him in the next day or two about
his interest in acquiring further information on the international grain
situation. I also told him that had made arrangements for him
to be briefed on the use of forces a or in the Soviet Union and would await
O SD review(s) completed.
