during the day in a reported LOS ANGELES TIMES editorial relating to
the David Kraslow report of interviews with Senator McCarthy relating
to CIA activities and their effect on foreign policy,

Talked to Miss Olga Watkins in

the office of Congressman William :
es concerning the Congressman's
possible attendance at the breakfast :meeting with the Director and
Chairman Rivers. Mrs. Watkins acivised that Mr. Bates had been
grounded in Boston due to snow and airplane troubles and that I might
reach him at home later in the evening.
I talked to Congressman Bates at .is home at about 9:00 p.m.
Although, he appreciated the invitation, he will be unable to attend in
the morning but will check with Mr. Blandford and the Chairman for
possible updating of information he has received in the last two
briefings. Although he had had a very trying day, Representative Bates
was in quite good humor, as usual.
E,. Received information from the Office
of Security that both gates (from Route 123 and GW Parkway) will be
open in the morning to insure that there will be no problem in entering
the Agency grounds for those persons meeting with the Director for
breakfast in the morning.
