1. In the autumn of 1954, the construction of a new railway leading directly
from Sibiu to Orastie and passing through Cugir, the site of several
armament factories, was on the point of completion. This line has the
advantage of shortening the distance between Sibiu and Arad and also of
avoiding the railway tie-up at Tintul de Jos. A corps of engineers
stationed at Orastie participated in the work.
