The frequency for the Soviet Information Bureau's 0 9 service in English
radioteletype at 06:00-10:30 (NSun) (p. 1-8) was changed from 20585 kcs to
19625 kcs during September.. (0)
2. Albania
.The Albanian Telegraph Agency has been con4ucting test transmissions in
radioteletype since early July. Tests were conducted on the ZAB1 transmitter,
which is used also for Tirana voice transmissions, between 8-11 July at 18:15-
19:4o on 6900 kcs, 8-10 November at 17:00-17:30 on 6900 kcs, and 19-21 Novem-
ber at 18:15-18:45 on 7158 kcs. Test transmissions in July, based on the on-
off keyed system plus or minus 500 cycles at the telegraph speed of 50 bauds,
were very poorly received owing to station interference. The tests in Novem-
ber, based on the Y11quency-shift keyed system plus or minus 500 cycles at
the telegraph speed of 50 bauds, were unidentifiable owing to severe station

3. Czechoslovakia
According to a CTK dispatch from Prague dated 30 December, Czechoslovakia.
has 1,351 teleprinter subscribers. Automation of teleprinter exchanges will
be completed in the third 5-year plan which will make it possible to connect
600 more subscribers. Also, semi-automatic links will be introduced between
Czechoslovakia and all the people's democratic countries. Czechoslovakia now
has teleprinter links with twenty-nine countries. "Of these four are oversew
countries, the United States--and to Honolulu, Manila, San Juan-A-rge;.tira,
Brazil, and Canada.". Negotiations are now underway for the establishment of
a teleprinter link with Italy and Spain and preparations. are being made for
negotiation with some other countries of Central and South America, according
to the dispatch, (BBC)
4. North Korea/Rumania
An agreement on the exchange of news between the Korean Central News
Agency and the Rumanian Agerpres agency was signed in Bucharest on 11_Novem-
ber, according to a KCNA dispatch. (0)
5. Poland
Since early September the Polish Press Agency has inaugurated a number
of unannounced press transmissions which consist of selected items from the
English radioteletype service for Europe.
A radioteletype transmission in English at 1+:00-15:00 on S0T34, 181.35
kcs at the telegraph speed of 50 bauds was first observed in early September,
apparently replacing the English morse transmission for the United States
(p. 1-29) which was formerly given on the channel at that time. . .
PAP radioteletype transmissions in English have been observed.since 30
December at 01:00-02:00 on SOP35, 15510 kcs and SOI21, 8133 kcs and at 15:00-
15:30 on SOX24, 22+95 kcs. (Although the destinations are nct mentioned, it
is believed that both transmissions are directed to the United States--BIS)

December. It is given at 08:00-09:30 (T, ur.) on S006, 18640 has, apparently
replacing the English worse transmission formerly given on the channel at,

6. Yugoslavia/ Indonesia
An agreement on cooperation between TANYUG, the Yugoslav news agency,
and ANTARA, the Indonesian news agency, was signed in Belgrade on 5 October,
according to a TANYUG dispatch. (BBC)
7. France
An additional bulletin in French morse from the Diplomatic News Service
in Paris was observed in progress at 12:30 on 27 November on V2X, 15595 hcs.
The mode of operation was observed to be Al emission at 30 rripm, (0)
8. Italy
An Italian news agency "AGA," presumably Agenzia Giornali Associati, was
observed testing with teletype in Italian on ISZ48, 4804 has and ISZ35, 3583
has from 19:00 to 20:00 on 3 December. The test transmission included a
roundup of world news and ended with a message advising "all listening posts"
to listen again at 19:00 on Monday, 7 December. (BBC)
ISY90, 9050 kcs, Rome was observed on 20 November transmitting A.?.A
material. in French morse at 17:00-17:55 for its representative in Cairo The
mode c operation was observed to be Al emission at 25 wpm. (0)
A new ANSA service from Rcme was first observed on 17 November in Englisl
radioteletype at 17:00-17:30 for authorized recipients in the Fax East on
ISX35, 13485 kcs. (0)
Netherlands
Scheveningen, A1'P, Mitime Press Service in Dutch morse (:p 2-17) was
observed on 19 November on PCH, 22570 has at 16:15-17:00, a retuning fraL.i

10. Switzerland
The 15:00-15:15 World Health Organization epidemiological bulletin from
Geneva has been given on the additional channel H3V35, 25132.5 'ea since 15

The London office of the Australian publication N,elbourre Herald wFc
observed testing with teletype in English on 11485 has at 1:3:15-20:30 (Lnday

12. Iraq
The semi-official Iraqi News Agency was inaugurated in September, accord-
ing to various press reports. The agency has not as yet utilized radio for
the dissemination of its material, however. (BIS)
13. 2orocco
%ghreb Arabe Presse," the first Nbroccan national news agency and a
private enterprise, was inaugurated in Rabat on 18 November, according to
press reports. An NCNA dispatch from Peking reported that in the beginning
this new agency will restrict its service to &rocco but plans to expand to
Tunisia, Libya, and the Middle East. Although press reports indicate the use
of "teletype, equipment in the Arabic and Latin alphabets," material from this
agency has not as yet been observed on radio. (BIS)
14-. China (Taiwan)
The Central News Agency bulletin in English worse from Taipei for agency
offices in the Far East on 3MA24. (p. 4-5) was retimed from 10:10-11:00 to
10:00-10:50 coincident with Taiwan's return to standard time in October. (W)
A new transmission of the Associated Press in Taipei was first observed
on 24 September in English radioteletype at 06:30-06:45.for.authorized reci-
pients, presumably in the Far East, on BCW123, 18555kcs. ..(0)
Taipei's radioteletype transmitter on 19755 kcs (p. 4-7) now identifies
as BCP22.instead of BVP22. (0)
15. Thailand
Bangkok, REUTTERS, in English morse to Singapore . was, first observed on 12
January at 09:00-09:30 on ESJ5, 10955 kcs. The mode of operation was observed
to be Al emission at 35 wpm. (This is the first scheduled presscast from

16. Brazil
PPS691 12252 kcs and PPS32, 6805 kcs, Rio de Janeiro have been,observed
transmitting in Portuguese morse "TRANSPRESS" material for authorized reci-
pients, presumably in Brazil, since early January,. (W)
PPK7, 12010 kcs, Rio de Janeiro was observed on 9 August transmitting
press dispatches for PRENSA LATINA in Havana in Portuguese worse at 00:05-
01:05 point - -to-point to C1v154, Havana. The mode of operation was observed to
be Al emission at approximately 40 wpm. (0)
17. Cuba
The director general of P i1 A LATI A announced on 22 December that the
agency "will expand its information services to include Europe and Asia. It
will establish a direct system of 16 hours daily news transmissions with the
countries of Asia, Africa, and Europe. The agency has offices in all Latin
American countries except Santo Domingo, Haiti, and Nicaragua. Branch offices
will be established in Rome and Paris, thus converting ':~~Fsfl,,A2?'NA into a
world-wide news agency." (E)
