I reside at the Vivian Hotel, 1723 "G" Street, Washington, 'D. C. 2. I have personally read a number of times and am familiar with a certain article which appeared in the "Now York Journal American" on Tuesday, January 19, 1965, the main headline of which reads, "CIA Challenged to Bare Data on Czar evich Case", a copy of which is attached hereto and initialed by me. 3. Every statement attributed to me in that article is correctly attributed and the quotation of my statement in that article is correctly quoted as such. No implications are to be drawn beyond the exact text of the article.. 4. I Was employed by the Central Intelligence Agency in the following capacities for the respective dates indicated: Chief, Research ?z Analysis, 1954-1962 Analyst, Research :x Analysis, 1953-1954 5. I terminated my relationship with the CIA on September 20, 6. As stated in the article referred to, I am convinced the tests proved the individual known as Col. Goleniewski is the Tsarevich and Grand Duke Aleksei Nicholaevich of Russia, the son of Emperor Nicholas II. The tests and the affirm- `ive results thereof were as follows according to subject individual: A. Fingerprint comparison with those of the Tsarevich taken during his visit in London in 1909 and later from other sources in possession of British Government. B. Sole prints comparisons with those of birth records and later medical records in possession of British Government, German Government and Synod of Russian Orthodox Church in New York City. C. Dental charts comparisons with those on file with the late Dr. Kostrycki of Paris, France and formerly the Dentist of the Russian Imperial Family. D. Anthropometrical test compared with material from sister and other relatives. E. Face Print test comparison with photos taken in child- hood, and parents and grandparents. F. Blood tests compared with previous medical records and those of family. Medical record compared for purpose of checking scars and marks with special attention to legs. H. Handwriting compared with childhood writing. I. Recognition by confrontation with childhood friends, 7. In addition to the above CIA tests, there were the following tests, with which I am personally familiar, made by the Academy of Scientific Interrogation in New York: - A. Comparison of portrait photos of Russian Imperial Family with that of subject by famous portrait artist Nell Hott with affirm- ative results, specifically, the imperial Family photograph taken in 1942. B. Confrontation and mutua. _ ecognition with Sister Anastasia Nicholaevna, Grand Duchess of Russia (a/k/a Eugenia Smith) whose identity has been validated by polygraph, personal documents, and intensive investigation in United States and Europe. . C. Research in New York Public Library reference to the alleged execution of the Imperial Family. D. Detailed and intensive investigation and the examination of documents, photographs, and special properties of subject as well as extended interrogation. E. Private intelligence sources and materials who have personal knowledge of subject and his background. 8. So far as I know, there have been no contrary factual indica- tions or reactions to the general thesis of the article referred to nor to any of the details therein. Since the publication of that article, I have not directly or indirectly been requested by the CIA to refrain from pur- suing the thesis of that article although I offered to comply with any such request were it made, nor has there been any claim to me by the CIA of any error with respect to any of the factual matters therein stated as attributed to me, as a quotation from me, or otherwise. 9. There is nothing in my prior arrangement with the Central Intelligence Agency as one of its officials and employees which would in any way inhibit me from making the foregoing statements or any state- ments with respect to this subject matter. I have been, and continue to' be, at complete liberty,with respect thereto. 10. As stated in the article referred to, I was convinced, and I continue to be convinced, that the person referred to as Col. Goleniewski and in whose presence I am signing this affidavit is in fact the'Tsarevich and Grand Duke Aleksei Nicholaevich Romanof? of Russia, the son of Emperor Nicholas II of Russia.
