1. Robert Blum, Research Assistant, Senate
Foreign Relations Committee, visited Headquarters to see the Cuban Missile
Crisis display in response to a long-standing invitation, His present
expectation is that he will stay on with the Committee through the summer
to oversee the publication of executive session hearings of the Foreign
Relations Committee beginning with the Truman period. Approval for
publication was granted by the full Committee and request will be made to
the Senate for necessary funding. Blum told me also that he had been
involved in a few limited areas with the staff of the Multi-National Corporation
Subcommittee but he does not expect to have any future involvement with that
Subcommittee and its work.
2. Received a call from Mike Finley,
Inter-American Affairs Subcommittee staff of House Foreign Affairs
Committee, who told me with apologies from Chairman Lee H. Hamilton
that it will be necessary to cancel the proposed briefing of the Subcommittee
scheduled for Wednesday, 21 February, Chairman Hamilton will not be
able to establish a new date until after the Lincoln Day recess.
