NEIL BOGGS: "The Senate Foreign Relations Committee today
got an in-person explanation and apology from CIA Director
Richard Helms. His letter to a newspaper praising its editorial
critical of Committee Chairman Fulbright, Helms conceded, was a
mistake.
"FuLbright himself said he considered the matter closed, and
as if to demonstrate al.L is forgiven, struck an amiable pose with
Helms when the closed hearing on the matter ended. Fulbright
said Helms told the Committee an aide drafted the letter, but that
he signed it along with other letters handed to him without a
careful enough examination."
