Paul A. Borel, an engineering and mining consultant from Kansas
City, has been named ieputy assistant director of the office of National
Estimates of the Central Intelligence Agency. Mr. Borel has been
engaged in intelligence since shortly after the war. During World War II
he served to the Navy and in 19115 attended the Potsdam conference as a
naval representative.
Before enterin
Navy, Mr. Borel was associated with the
Phillips Petroleum Company in Oklahoma and Texas, Black and Veatch,
consulting engineers in Kansas City, and the Sun oil Company in Toledo,
Ohio. He was commissioned an ensign in the Naval Reserve in 1991xO and
separated from the service as a commander in 1946. He participated in
the Normandy invasion and in November 1944 was named chief staff officer
for the naval component of the SFIAEF mission to the Netherlands. In
1916 he attended the Paris Conference as assistant to the naval advisor
to the Secretary of State.
rn in Zurich, Switzerland on March 15, 1912, Mr. T3orel was
educated in Kansas City schools and received his B.S. In chemical
engineering from the University of Kansas in 193b. Other degrees
include the M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Ad-minis-
tration it 1938; M.A., Columbia University, 19U4; and George
Washington University, 1951. He was graduated from the National Thar
College in 1950.

Married to the former Miriam Eleanor Chesham of Minneapolis, he
has five children and makes his home in Fairfax County, Virginia. His
parents, Mr. an . Mrs. Jules Torel, live at 5129 Clark Drive, Kansas City,
Kansas.
