On 6 November 1952 Dr. Hugo Schrade, Director of VrB Carl Zeiss, Jena? gave a survey of 1952 development at the plant to Zeiss department chiefs,, He stated that the 1952 plan from 1 January through 30 September 1952 had been fulfilled by 10733 percent: October production was slightly below the quote with a fulfillment of 993 percent, 2,, Schrade continued that producton is seriously hampered by shortages of critical materials? The most serious shortages are those of cast light metal, light metal sheet and steel, Schott and Genossen, Jenab has been unable to provide glass in sufficient quantities. Anot`.er factor in the shortage of glass is that many skilled glass workers have fled to west Germany, 3, Schrade stated that the new Zeiss factories in i'.eimar, Seebach and isfeld will. start to operate in early 1953.
