1. (Confidential - JGO) After general briefing by
on the current political situation in Chile, I met with
Mr. Garner J. Cline, Counsel, Subcommittee on Immigration and
Nationality, House Judiciary Committee, and briefed him in response
to last week's request. Mr. Cline will be departing later in the day with
Representative and Mrs. Joshua Eilberg (D., Pa.) for Chile. Mr. Cline
noted in passing that the Department of State has not encouraged
RepresentativeEilberg's trip but rather has counseled against attempting
to meet with members of the new government at this time.
2. (Confidential - JGO) Met with Mrs. Ann Willett, House Armed_
Services Committee staff, who advised that she had made a rather detailed
review of correspondence received from members of the military over
the past two weeks and was not able to identify anything relating to
