Tuesday - 12 April 1966
1. Met with Mr. Joe Wehler of Immigration
and Naturalization to discuss the latest revision of the Rodino bill (H. R. 10400)._
We made some minor technical changes to the satisfaction of Mr. Wehler, who
called Mr. Derringer at the Department of Justice and informed him that he,
Wehler, is now satisfied with the bill. Wehler also explained that J. Cline
of the House Subcommittee on Immigration and Naturalization prefers a report
on the original H.R. 10400, incorporating such changes as appear desirable.
Mr. Wehler, in my presence, dictated a new report for the Department of
Justice, which will be furnished to the Bureau of the Budget. The report noted
that the Department of Justice has no objections to the bill, and then listed
the suggested changes. I shall check with Mr. Rommel of BOB early next
week to discuss the BOB report to the Subcommittee.
