WHY TT WAS ESTABLISHED
1. To satisfy expanding Agency requirements for computer

WHAT IT DOES
J_. It directs and operates the CIA Computing Center
which is the principal computer installation in
the Agency.
2. It provides technical guidance and policy on all
Agency ADP activities.
3. It develops new systems, defines applications,
writes computer programs, and operates hardware
(7090, 1410, and 1401).
4. Its current major interests are scientific
computation and language data processing.
V~HO IT SERVES
1. It was set up to serve all Agency components.
2. It is emphasizing support to DD/S&T and DD/I.

1. DD/P. Major program here is Project - It involves
design and implementation of system for automatic indexing,
retrieval, and control of counter-intelligence raocuments.
An IBM 1401/1410 computer and a specially developed
photoelectric document storage machine are in this
installation.
2. DD/I - NPIC. NPIC uses a Univac 490 Real Time computer
to perform photagrammetric calculations for PI analysis.
3. DD/~ and Comptroller. Major ADP activities here are
directed toward computer support of the management,
accounting, payroll, personnel, and inventory functions.
An RCA 501/301 is used.
