Dear Ted,
You will recall that through your good offices the CIA
was privileged to receive a picture of President Kennedy inscribed,
" To the Central Intelligence Agency with esteem..-John F. Kennedy.
Needless to say, we treasure this as a historical document of
inestimable value and we feel greatly honored to have such a docu-
ment. We have also acquired a picture of President Truman
inscribed, "To the Central Intelligence Agency. a necessity to the
President of the United States, from one who knows--Harry S. Tru-
man, " and we have a picture of President Eisenhower inscribed to
the Agency.
I would now like to seek your good offices in asking President
Johnson to inscribe a picture to the Central Intelligence Agency with
whatever comment he deems appropriate. This will then mean that
the Agency will have an inscribed picture from every President
that it has served since its official creation in 1947. These will
be hung in our main corridor where they will be a great boost to
the morale of our employees. I would be deeply appreciative of
whatever you can do in this regard. (Incidentally, we all thought
the picture of the President on the cover of LIFE was superb, and
maybe he would inscribe that one. )
I also want to extend my thanks to you for your share in making
the ceremony at which I was honored such an unforgettable occasion.
I will always prime not only the medal and the citation, but also the
pictures taken with the President. It was a great thrill for the
family.
Finally, may I remind you that we are looking forward hope-
fully to briefing you, Messrs. Valenti, Jenkins, Moyers and

anybody else on the Whitb`~Ie104~ S`taff` that has a "need to know"
and would be interested in being better acquainted with the
Agency. I realize you all are very much engrossed with the
forthcoming elections, but I do hope that sometime in the near
future we can set up this briefing for you.
Sincerely yours,
