Approved For Release 2004/05/05 : CFA-RDP84-00933R000400140017?7., MEMORANDUM FOR: Director, National Foreign Assessment Center Deputy Director for Science and Technology Deputy Director for Operations Deputy Director for Administration General Counsel Inspector General Director, Office of Personnel Comptroller Opportunity Director, Equal Employment Opp Director, Office of Policy and Planning FROM: Deputy Director of Central Intelligence SUBJECT: Wilson/Terpil Investigation 1. You are aware that, in addition to the on-going Department of Justice investigation of the Wilson/Terpil case, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence is conducting its own investigation and that I asked the Inspector General to undertake a search for all Agency documents relevant to the case. 2. The document retrieval phase is about finished. It behooves us to research this subject thoroughly to ensure that the record is clear. 1 have asked the IG to pursue all possible ambiguities; thus. he will be doing some follow-on interviewing. I have also asked him to serve as the focal point for dealing with the HPSCI Staff and its investigation, keeping the External Affairs Office fully informed. 3. We will, of course, protect sources and methods. But we must, at the same time, avoid withholding relevant information. The three principal HPSCI Staff investigators, Messrs. Latimer, O'Neil and Long, hrough may have access to any and all relevant documents in this building, the IG. If documents are requested for the Committee orfor Staffeuse on the Hill, they will be appropriately sanitized and logged a permanent record of that which was sent. Likewise, all responses to Staff questions will be in writing. 4. I do'not anticipate that we will get into the kind fdocument release bind experienced during the Rockefeller Commission, Cord. dut Pike Committee, or House Assassination Spb-Committee investigations, it is conceivable, depending on the number-and scope of HPSCI questions, that we might need a small task force for document review, sanitizing and control. If so, I will be back to you. Admiral, U.S_ Navy Approved For R e',e? 5 : C.
