1.1 LIAISON Per Marie Ii. Eckstein's
request, forwarded to Sue I-Iuck, in the office of Representative
Lawrence McDonaldw(D., Ga.), a short unclassified item concerning
Jose Francisco Pena Gomez, of the Dominican Republic.
2. 1 -1 LIAISON Received a call
from Barbar Cam on the staff of the Senate Budget Committee,
asking for telephone number. I told her that
h.as retired; she said that Robert S. Boyd, Minority
Staff Director, has his home telephone number, and he would
try at home.
3. 1- 1 LIAISON Along with 1 -1 25X1
of our office, accompanied. two new Senate Select
Comml tee on Intelligence staffers (Mike Gela.cek and Tom
.0; Crowley) and three new I-louse Permanent Select Committee on
Intelligence staffers (Ira Goldman, Fred Hull and Arlene
Marek) to a series of orientation briefings. The briefings

Goldman a copy of the SEC Regulation which enables any stockholder
to question company management on whether anyone in the
company is working for the CIA.
4.1 1~ LIAISON Called. Mike Glennon,
Legal Counsel, Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on
International Operations, to set up a visit by him to Headquarters
for Thursday, 3 August at 2:00 p.m. to receive a briefing from
DDO/LA Division on cooperation among several South American
security services. This is in response to one of Glennon's
requests related to the Subcommittee's investigation of
foreign intelligence activities in the U.S.
5.1 1 LIAISON Received a call from John
Marshall., on the staff of the Morgan-Schmitt Senate Select
Committee on Ethics Subcommittee, who said that he had asensi.ti_ve
matter he wished to discuss concerning the Subcommittee's investiga-
tion of the leak. I told Marshall that I would. be
on the 11.11 on. Thursday, 3 August and would. stop by to see him
then. '

asked a question about the 'report on ne ency`s i rastructure
which was recently provided to the Committee. I told Levine

Mark Gitenstein, Senate Judiciary Committee staff, formerly of the
Senate Select Committee-on Intelligence staff. Gitenstein said a
friend of his, had recently been rejected for
employment with the Agency. Gitenstein said I was very 25X1
interested in emplloyment here and would like to know if
anything such as further education or language training would
improve his chances I told Gitenstein I did not know what.
I could say o the case but I would look into it.
I asked Gitenstein if he would meet with I I, OLC, 25X1
to discuss the amendment before the Senate Judiciary Committee
to the Federal Tort Claims Act. After some inconcliis..iv -
discussion, I told Gitenstein I thought I should have 25X1
call him directly.
2. LIAISON Accompanied Senate
Select Committee on Intel:} staff members Mike ,cc l.acek
and Tom Crowley and house Permanent Select Committee on
Intelligence staff members Fred Hull, Ira Goldman and.
Arlene Marek to a series of orientation briefings on CIA.
Participants were O/Compt, who gave an overview
of the Agency Zeke Zellmer, A/DDSF,T, C,/PCS/LOC,
CSS/NFAC, and EO/DDA.

Tom Moore. Senate Select staff, and
discussed the status of his request on

Maine George, in the office of Senator Paul Sarbanes (D., Md.
George said. that Clifford Hackett, on the Senator's staff,
had just received a copy of an unclassified Agency publication
entitled "Economic Indicators Weekly Review" and wanted to be
put on regular distribution for the publication. I explained
the Director's new policy of providing unclassified studies
to Senators routinely and that the Senator's office would
regularly get all these publications through the Senate Select
Committee on Intelligence. George said she would pass this
along.

Korean subversive activities scheduled to be given to the Subcommittee
on International Organizations on. 3 August.. Smeeton suggested)
that it would be appropriate for Chairman. Donald M. Fraser (I). ,
?Minn.) to make some remarks regarding the proper treatment of
classified information.
16. LIAISON Called Mike Hershman,
Deputy Staff Di_ ,ector, Ilouse International Relations Subcommittee
on Internat.iona 1, Organ_izat:ions, to ask whether he could arrange
for Subcommittee Chairman Donald M. Fraser (D. , Minn.) to read. a
brief statement that we would prepare on the handling of ciass:"f_ed
information and the need to treat the identity of the Agency's
briefer with the utmost discretion when we brief the Subcommittee
on North Korean subversive activities on 3 August. Flershman said
this would be no problem, and T said I would. get the statement
to h:i_m early next week.
17. LIAISON Called Paul O'Connell,
on the staff of the Morgan--Schmitt Senate Select Committee on
Ethics Subcommittee, to pass on two additional pieces of information
which he had asked for during his visit earlier in. the day on the
Senate Select Committee on Intelligence oil study leak.

Office of Legislative Affairs, NSA, who
said that NSA had informed Mike Epstein, on the staff of the
Senate Select. Committee on Intelligence, that he was not
authorized to show NSA documents z possession to staff
members of the Senate Select. Committee on Ethics. I told
that we had earlier in the day informed Epstein
that three Senate Ethics staffers had received ST briefings,
and thus could be exposed to this compart.iiiented. information,
but, that we had specifically cautioned Epstein that this
notification was not meant to imply in. any way that we were
authorizing him to show documents which were the property of
another Agency to the Senate Ethics staffers.

that Senate Select Committee on Ethics employees Erica Ward,
Judy Schnieder and Joan Alexroth were to receive SI briefings
this afternoon. Epstein mentioned he had spoken to John

answering the staff members' questions about the material.
2. LIAISON Talked with Audrey
VIlatry, Clerk, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence staff,
who gave me the schedule for Committee hearings for next week.
Only one hearing, on the charter, is planned.
3. LIAISON Hal Ford, Senate Select
VCommittee on Intelligence staff, was at Headquarters and.
reviewed comments of individual agencies on his study of
intelligence on China. After his review, Ford said he needs
to do some more interviewing and then will want to look at
the comments again.

and Tom Crowley, both of the Senate Select Committee on Intelli-
gence staff, and made final. arrangements for their orientation
briefings tomorrow.

Dave Lazarus, Helsinki Commission, who wanted to know if we
had any information on drug abuse or illegal transportation of
drugs in the USSR. After checking with NFAC/CSS, I call Lazarus
back and told him we have no i.nfor.mation on this subject.
