Please be advised that the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy
will hold hearings in executive session Thursday and Friday, January
18 and 19, 1962 to review and to consider the U. S. analysis of the
recent USSR series of nuclear weapons tests and the current status
and future plans of the United States with regard to U. S. nuclear
weapons tests.
The hearings will be conducted in the Joint Committee executive
session hearing room, AE-1, U, S. Capitol Building, beginning at
2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 18, and continuing for two additional
sessions beginning at 10:00 A.M., and 2:00 P.M., on Friday, January
19.
Representatives from the Department of Defense, the Atomic
Energy Commission, and the Nuclear Weapon Laboratories are also being
requested to be present. It is planned that the hearings will com-
mence with a discussion by CIA as to the Soviet tests, to be followed
by AEC, Defense Department, and laboratory representatives discussing
United States needs and plans relative to nuclear weapons,
The Joint Committee staff will be available if there is any
question concerning the preparation for the hearings.
