FgiRelease 2004/07/08: CIA-RDP80R01'P OR000500040089-2 WAR/PEACE REPORT 300 E. 46TH ST., NEW YORK, N.Y. . 10017 TEL.: 212 867-8456 FACT AND OPINION ON PROGRESS TOWARD A WORLD OF LAW AND ORDER September 1, 1966 Mr. George Carver, Jr, Central Intelligence Agency Langley, Virginia Dear Mr. Carver: Since I have not heard from you since our conversation in Washington, I assume that you have probably decided not to do either one of the things we talked about in regard to Lacouture. Am I correct? You may recall that we discussed another idea that perhaps would be more seemly from your standpoint. This was to have a taped dis- cussion of the post-1954 origins of the Viet.L'.am War and their relation to the situation today. I would like to suggest that the tape be made with yourself and Joseph Buttinger, whom you doubtless know by reputation and who is about to have a two volume history of Vietnam published. He has a differing interpretation of the post-1954 events than you. After the discussion , which I would think would take from an hour to an hour and a half, the tape would be transcribed, edited down, and submitted to both of you for any changes that you wish to make. We would then publish the results in an early issue. I do hope you will be able to do this as I know that you agree that the subject is a most important one and I would hope that this dialogue would contribute to public information in this area. Sincerely, f5;; e RH:bs /7 Richard Hudson cc, Mr. Joseph Buttinger Editor A roved For Release 2004/07/08 ? CIA-RDP80R017 0 nnA 0 ` - BOARD OF SPONSORS: pOGER N. BALDWIN DONALD G.
