Dear Admiral Turner,
Your fine speech to The Economic Club has created a great
deal of enthusiasm among our members. They liked the directness and.
balance of what you said and went away, I lcnow, reassured that-our
nation's intelligence effort was in good hands and that the right
kind of careful evolution toward a responsibly more open operation was
taking place. You certainly handled the questions exceedingly we17.,
too. We were greatly honored to have had you with us and greatly im~-
pressed by what you are accomplishing. Thank you very much far coming.
Most sincerely,
EALjrogcw

Dear Mr. Locke,
Thank you for your letters of October 26th and
November 11th, and for soliciting from your members
suggested topics far me to cover in my talk. Their
suggestions w~il1 be most useful and I wi11 try to
address as many of them as I can during my talk.
I'm sure, however, that Leo Cherne and
George Malone will pick up any loose ends during
the question and answer period should I be remiss
in touching on some topics of interest. In-any event,
I'm certainly looking forward to meeting with your
distinguished group.

Rear Admiral ~rner,
xn an effort to deteruaine what may be the particular areas of
interest of your audience at the December 7th dinner, x have asked our
members to suggest questions they would Tike to see covered in year
speech or in the question period afterward.
There has been a good response, and x have fisted same repre~
sentative questions on the attached sheet. As you can see, the emphasis
is more on the GIA?s secrecy vroble-ms rather than on the economic prospects
of the. Communist world which~I believe will be the main topic of your speech..
However, without meaning to infringe in any way an your complete freedom of
choice, x feel your comments on the Communist economies might be an example
of more openness bringing more information to mare people without cou~ramis~ing
your sources of intelligence.
13e all this as it may, we are looking forward 4remendously to
having. you with us on December 7th. xf any more interesting questions came
in from our members, x shall send them right along to you.
