Request for Continued Classification of
Classified Documents Over 30 Years Old
1. Action Res uested: Your signature is requested on the attaphe d
standard Form No. 325 giving notice of your decision to continue ,classi-
fication of the OSS documents from CIA's 0SS files listed below.."
Classification is to be extended until 31 December 2020.
2. Baekground: The documents listed herewith wereraceviewed by
the 055 Declassification Team as part of the Agencyxs jstematic records
review and were found to require continued protection the interests
of national security as outlined in Executive Order/11652, Sections
Since the review, the documents in qua Lion have been requested
under an FOZA request by Mr. Joseph E. Persicya of Bethesda, Maryland.
Mr. Persico wanted to use the documents in sting a book on OSS operations
in Cermany. On 22 April 1977, Mr. Persia, as notified that de3classifi.-
cation of the six documents had been ceded but segregable portions of
the material were provided. 7
3. Recommendation; I recomend/that you sign and return the
attached Standard Form No. 325. Thy action is necessary to formalize
the classification extension of thane documents.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING ENTRIES
LIST OF NATIONAL SECURITY CLASSIFIED MATERIAL
REQUIRING PROTECTION BEYOND 30 YEARS
1. IDENTIFICATION OF THE MATERIAL. Provide sufficient information on the document or
material (including names, date, form, unique file numbers, pages, etc.) to specifically identify it.
EXAMPLE: "Forrestal to Leahy, Nov. 28, 1944, letter, 3 pages;" or "Name of intelligence source in
2d line, p. 2 of Forrestal to Leahy, Nov. 28, 1944, letter, 3 pages."
2. LOCATION. NA=National Archives Building; WNRC/A=Washington National Records
Center, General Archives Division; WNRC= developmental records on deposit in the Washington
National Records Center; RG=record group number assigned; E=entry in published finding aid
(if known); and box number (if known). EXAMPLE: "NA RG80 E10 Box 236."
3. ORIGINAL CLASSIFICATION. Note original (or if regraded higher, the highest level) classi-
fication marking, e.g. TS=Top Secret, S=Secret, C=Confidential, R= Restricted.
4. REGRADE TO: TS=Top Secret, S=Secret, C=Confidential. Material formerly marked
""Restricted" which is to be regraded to "Confidential" should be noted here as "C."
5. REASON FOR CONTINUED CLASSIFICATION. Enter code "A" if continued protection is
essential to the national security; enter code "B" if disclosure would place a person in immediate
jeopardy. Any desirable elaboration or further reasoning should be stated succinctly in this column.
"In some instances both "A" and "B" would be applicable and should be entered: "A/B."
6. DECLASSIFY ON DEC. 31 OF YEAR. Enter year at the end of which the identified item can
be automatically declassified without further review.
7. AUTHORIZED BY/DATE. Enter the title of the person signing the covering letter and the date
f the letter.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff have initiated a program
to review for declassification the histories of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff in order to give them wider distribution.
Enclosed are reproductions of pages from one of these
histories entitled History of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, The
Joint Chiefs of Staff and National Policy, 1.950-1952, Volume
IV. These pages contain classified information extracted
from, or attributed to, the Central Intelligence Agency.
Request your office review these pages to determine
the current classification of the CIA information therein,
and'advise this office of your action. Please return the
reproductions with your reply.
Upon removal of the enclosures, this letter becomes
UNCLASSIFIED.
