The School is actively developing its thought towards a "Natio Behavior Program ." During the past week we have had several lengthy dis- cuss ons with interested and qualified Agency and non-Agency persons, have done considerable reading, and have produced five preliminary "discussion pieces." A detailed "status report" will be forwarded in a few days. 2. Plan for our proposed internal reorganization has been completed and will be forwarded on Thursday or Friday for suggestions and approval. We hope to be able to begin operating under the new badly-needed organiza- tion immediately after your approval. 3. I have invited Dr. to tell our faculty about his ex- periences and thinking relative to.our interest in a "National Behavior Program." He has worked and written on this topic for nearly twenty-five years, and is vigorous and enthusiastic in his belief in its importance. 4. We are continuing in our effort to organize an intensive Czech course in a manner that will not involve the Agency in any expense specifi- cally for this course. We think we shall be able to assemble the necessary resources. The savings, if we are successful, will be #3-5,000. 5. II reports that a two-day conference on Contemporary Africa, which he attended on 11-12 February, reflects an increasing American interest in the future development of Africa South of the Sahara. The conference Is one of a series sponsored by Johns Hopkins for the benefit of corporation execu- tives, and was held at the Statler Hotel. Businessmen showed great interest in basic, as well as current, trends in politics and economics. 6. egan a four-month detail with us for the purpose of pre- senting Hungary-Basic Country Survey #1, which is now scheduled to begin 1 April and run ten weeks, seven hours a week. As reported some time ago, in- terest in this course appears to be greater than in any previously offered BCS. France-BCS ,#1 began with 16 enrolled students and about a dozen WE auditors expected for many of the lectures. Schedule for this course is experimental - two full days a week, for six weeks, in order to in- crease student concentration and minimize loss of time for commuting. The Strategic Intelligence School film on Free Europe, last to be produced in the SIS series on world regions, will not be available until summer. 0 who has been serving as technical advisor, spent Friday with the Signal Corps in New York checking final sketches for animation in Part I. Three months in production have been lost as a result of the necessity of obtaining additional funds. We are looking into the most economical means of producing French and German sound tracks for this survey-type film, to be used in language classes.
