".....The evaluation of secret intelligence data and overt information
is our principal responsibility; and is frankly the most difficult to
relate to specific technologies. It ibvolves the collatign, correlation
and distillation of vast quantities of raw data from a7,1' sources,
covering tojics which range from economics to polities and back to basic
science. It is here that technology may make its -r'eatest contribution
since we are collecting raw data faster than we c, n adequately evaluate it,
and the difference grows steadily. The solution/lies somewhere in the use
of computers, ADP techniques, and a better understanding of our own
existing distillation process. The evaluatip?n Of increasingly large volumes
of photography is just one painful example of this data explosion and
indigestion problem."
