Week Ending 23 DECEMBER 1981
PROCESSING WEEKLY REPORT FOR
23 DECEMBER 1981
In the Ruffing Center on Wednesday, all OCR applications lost
135 minutes due to a failure of an IBM tape controller. The
controller then hung an I/O channel causing a loss of the Batch
system for 25 minutes. RECON lost 80 minutes more Wednesday due
to a bad card in an IBM disk drive. On Monday, faulty COMTEN
hardware caused a 15 minute loss to VM and one of 73 minutes to
GIMPROD, COLTS lost 154 minutes, Monday, following an error on a
CDC disk drive. All OCR applications lost 25 minutes, Monday,
because of a problem in the Access Control Facility software. A
somewhat below average week. In the Special Center, CAMS lost 50
minutes, Thursday, when an IBM disk drive failed, followed by a
mistake in moving a disk pack between banks. A problem with
either an Amdahl 70 channel, or a disk controller in an IBM
370/158, caused 102 lost minutes for TPSTAR on Thursday. CAMS
hung Wednesday for 104 minutes in the course of cabling work being
done. A few other lost time problems were encountered that had
minor effects.
Word Processing RFP - Forty-six vendor questions have been

answered and forwarded to OL/PD. Twelve vendors have, thus far,
expressed interest in bidding.
Status of Delta Data Terminal - All bugs reported as of
12/2/81 have been corrected. Representatives of SPD and ED met
with Delta Data to finalize plans for the final release which is
due 15 January 1982. A set of PROMSDwas delivered December 1981
for testing prior to attempting some speed enhancements. We have
scheduled a two day trip to Delta Data on 11-12 January 1982.
Ramis release 2.1 has been made the production version of
RAMIS in the batch and interactive environments of the Ruffing and
Special Centers.
Development and testing continued through the past week on
the new IBM 3081 Processor as an MVS/JES3 standalone Global. IBM
conducted two training sessions for the Operations, System
Programming and Engineering Divisions.

. OCR-COLTS and OCR-RECON both reported below the goal of 96
percent for the week with each application recording outages
due to
hardware, software, and procedural problems.
- OCR-COLTS experienced 4 hours and 49 minutes of hardware
outages
a 2 hour and 30 minute TB procedural problem, and 1 hour and
- OCR-RECON had 7 hours of hardware outages, 2 hours and 47
minutes
of procedural problems, and 1 hour and 53 minutes of software
errors.
