You will have seen the CIA briefing item of this mornin (Tab A)
drawing from various sources but heavily weighted with
input, suggesting that Syria might initiate some type of hostility
with Israel shortly. 25X1
I have asked CIA to recheck their reporting for
further activity that would indicate intent as well as preparedness.
They report:
--As of -about 10:30 Washington time there was nothing available
in any channel indicating unusual
military activity involving Syrian or other forces in the Golan

--As a specific indicator, UNTSO has reported today that
the situation appears normal.
--CIA's judgment is that the situation is not rapidly (their
emphasis) approaching the danger point. Certain key military
figures are out of place and there has been no reflection of

Nevertheless, CIA is edgy about the situation. I attach at Tab B a
