The number of volunteers reportedly
totalei some 9000, members of the paramilitary Iraqi peoples army,
800 of which have already been sent to Lebanon. According to
DIA, whi ].c much of the information provided is prob-
ably valid, the number of Iraqi; fighting -in Lebanon is be-
lieved to be somewhat less than 800. A more likely figure would
be 300. It is also possible that some regular Iraqi army of-
ficers will be sent in an advisory role to ensure the volunteers
are properly utilized. The officers will probably avoid becom-
ing involved in Actual combat:. DIA believes it is highly un-
likely that regular Iraqi army units will be sent.

ment has reportedly informed 6'.S.63.1 company executives that
all restrictions , on the shipment of petroleum products to
Uganda are lifted -- this applies even to jet fuel. Recent de--
liveries to Uganda had been limited to about 25 percent of the
precrisis volume. Nairobi probdh]y made its decision because
the government realized continued restrictions at the present
time would prove counter-productive. Nairobi has a 'strong
economic: hold on Kampa]a, a point the Kenyans have impressaed
on Ugandan President Amin. According to DIA Renya may now
hope that resumption of normal petroleum deliveries will short
circuit Ugandan attempts to establish alternate supply routes,
a situation that could weaken the offect of future Kenyan sanc-
tions.
