ETHIOPIAN TROOPS REBEL IN ASMARA: REUTERS REPORTS THAT ETHIOPIAN
TROOPS HAVE SEIZED CONTROL OF THE NORTHERN CITY OF ASMARA. THE
SOLDIERS, APPARENTLY LED BY JUNIOR OFFICERS, HAVE CLOSED THE
CITY'S AIRPORT, ALL BANKS, TELECOMMUNICATIONS OFFICES, AND ROADS,
THE REPORT SAID. THE REASON FOR THE REVOLT WAS NOT CLEAR EUT
FIRST REPORTS SAID IT APPEARED TO BE A PROTEST OVER PAY RATHER
THAN AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT.
