? 2. EGYPTIAN FRONT
a. (TSU) Egyptian forces remain on a high state of alert.
Naval units in the Red Sea area were on full alert in expecta-
tion of an Israeli attack in retaliation for the sinking of
the Liberian tanker SERIUS.
Both sides appear
nervous about encroachment onto occupied territories.
b. (S/NFD/LIMDIS) believes that Israeli
forces finally got possession of SA-6/GAINFuL equipment on
27 October. The Israelis now possess two burned-out GAXNFUL
missiles with elerelnics intact and a damaged transporter-
erector launchers

(U) Nothing to report.
4. OTHER ARAB ACTIVITY
a. IRAQ
(5) On 29 octobers Baghdad said it plans to withdraw
its combat forces not only from Syria but from Egypt as well.
Iraq has a HAWKER HUNTER squadron based in Egypt.
b. SAUDI ARABIA
(S/NFD/CD) As of the 27th, 800 Palestinian volunteers
from the Jidda area departed for the Syrian front in vehicles
provided by the Saudi Government.
