2. (TSU) ARDF/Airborne Communications Intercept Mission has been initiated
on alternate days in the area between Pakse, Laos and Kompong Sralao, .
Cambodia. One objective of the mission is to isolate and develop communica-
tions associated with logistics and personnel infiltration along water lines
of communications (LOC's) provided by the Mekong River.
3. (SS) As a result of increased communications surveillance of Cambodia,
.an Airborne Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) fix of the Forward Element (FE),
5th VC Division was obtained seven miles east of Siem Reap. In addition,
the Hqs, 275th VC Regiment, 5th.VC Division, was fixed by ground-based
direction finding approximately nine miles north-northeast of Siem Reap.
This identification of the Division Forward Element in proximity to the
Bp 275th VC Regiment indicates that this entity is probably the control
element for Communist forces operating to the north of the Tonle Sap. The.
location of the 275th VC Regiment represents the first firm identification
of enemy units initiating activity in the Siem Reap area and lends additional
evidence to recent reports of a threat to the Stem Reap - Angkor Wat region.
