FROM: Henry A. Kissinger
We still have heard not a word regarding dates for my trip
to China, despite the fact that we specifically asked for an early
reply when we proposed the dates in September.
Their failure to respond over so substantial a period seems
quite out of character, and the President would appreciate your
assessment of the reasons for the delay. You will be interested in
knowing that Senator Mansfield told me last evening that the Chinese
had postponed his trip.
Would appreciate a response within 48 hours and earlier if
at all possible.
