MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT

The following is a report on actions taken or underway on Cambodia
from August 4 through 6:00 p. m. , August 6.
Military Operations: Ground operations continue at a low level.
-- USAF/VNAF air operations included 73 recce missions, 26
B-5Z strikes and 223 tacair strikes.
-- Lon. Nol on August 6 requested 12 helicopters for use by FANK.
Our Embassy advised the Cambodians to have Lon Nol make the request
of the GVN. The Embassy urged favorable consideration of the request.
Third Country Military Forces in Support of Cambodia: There are 12,256
RVNAF personnel in Cambodia, 2, 789 Khxner Krom, i1i 25X1

Military Assistance: The following equipment was.delivered:

Diplomatic: Our special two man study team in a summary telegram to
State reported that a Cambodian budget deficit of some $230 million will
have to be covered by the end of CY1971. The team recommends that
we seek at least 50 percent from third-country donors.
Information: The VC/NVA capture of Time correspondent Robert Anson
brings to four the number of U. S. newsmen missing in Cambodia. Two
others have been killed and three were released. Seventeen other foreign
