1. Re visit of South African Chief of Armed Forces, while it true that
his visa was issued for private visit, Secretary feels it is not unnatural
that he would want to pay a call on his counterpart while in the US.
Therefore, Secretary does not under any circumstances want the South
African Ambassador called in (Rush and Easum's Daily Activities
Reports of May 10).
2. For your information, though the Secretary does not want to make an
issue of it nowhile he is away, his view is that we must stop
nothing
harrassing the South Africans. He asks that you assure that/further
happen; on this until he returnsswhen -he wants to review the whole
subject of our relations.
