UNITA President Jonas Savimbi gave a press interview to the Dakar daily "Le Soleil" on 27 October in which he denounced Soviet and Cuban aid to the MPLA and categorically denied that South African troops were aiding UNITA. Savimbi said that about one week before the interview, three ships from the Soviet Union, East Germany and Yugoslavia had unloaded more than 10,000 tons of arms at Luanda. He indicated this was in addition to the Aeroflot deliveries. to Brazzaville, Lobito and?Benguela(sic). 2. Savimbi concluded the interview by urging political compromise among the three Angolan liberation groups. He said that if the OAU could not achieve such a compromise, .he could foresee the United Nations entering the picture, even though UNITA does not want UN' intervention.
