NEW CIA director William
Gates has the same trouble as
President Reagan with off-the-
cuff remarks. The - President
raised eyebrows around the world
when he said - during a sound
level check.just before his weekly
radio broadcast - "The bombing
will start in five minutes." Gates
- as photographers surrounded
him on the second day of being
grilled at his confirmation hear-
ings - declared: "You can take
this job and shove it." Gates later.
explained, "It was an offhand at-
tempt to make a joke with the
photographers."
