The attached copy of a letter from the
President of AFCEA is self-explanatory. I
have no strong feelings one way or the other.
If you feel that an article by Stan would
do us some good with this constituency let's
talk about how to Proceed.
I should think someone in your Directorate
might core up with a draft which
I Icould then translate into Turnerese.

Central Intelligence Agency

Dear Admiral Turner:
The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association is planning
its October issue of SIGNAL Magazine on surveillance, target acquisition
and intelligence.
For this special issue, we are planning a composite article from the
key people in the intelligence community on the critical intelligence
programs for the 80s. Since we strongly believe our readers would benefit
from sharing your thoughts, we invite you to prepare a statement on your
views and your critical issues and programs for the 80s. Of course,
we leave the specific choice of what to elaborate on entirely up to
you.
I believe that AFCEA/SIGNAL is the best possible medium for providing
you with a forum for an interface between industry and the technical
intelligence community. Our readers are very interested in learning
more about the vital role of intelligence in National Security. It is
our hope that you will be able to contribute a statement on this most
important subject.
To be available for publication in October, your cleared 500 word
statement should be submitted to us by August 11, 1980. We would also
need a photograph and biographical sketch of you as the author.
If you should have any questions on this request or if you would
like to discuss the matter further, please contact me. I look forward
to hearing from you shortly with a favorable response to our invitation.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jon L. Boyes
Vice Admiral, USN (Ret.)
