And former directors are saying the very same thing, as we hear in this report from Ford Rowan. FORD ROWAN: Several former high officials in the Central Intelligence Agency predict that covert operations will escalate under President Reagan. Covert actions were curtailed several years ago after it was disclosed that the CIA had plotted assassinations, experimented with drugs and spied on Americans. Sources say that under President Carter's CIA Director; Stansfield Turner,.the number of covert missions has been 'modest, But William Casey, a top Reagan adviser, is expected to push for revitalizing the CIA.
