Helms, a member the Class of 1935 at Williams College, spoke before an audience of several hun- dred at Chapin Hall during an alumni reunion weekend seminar series. Recent events in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe were no less cataclysmic than the two world wars, Helms said. We now face "a united Germany that is coming right at us," a Soviet Union with a "basket case" econ- omy, and an independent Central Europe for the first time in 40 years, he said. The United States remains "the only superpower left." Helms said. Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/05/10: CIA-RDP99-00418R000100200009-1
