Rosa Gonzales, 30, of Annapolis, was on a training flight from Annapolis to various spots on the Delmarva Peninsula when her single engine Piper Cherokee was believed lost, some time between 2 and 6 p.m. During her trip, she had landed safely at the Bay Bridge and Summit, Del., airports, then spoke by radio to the Dover, Del., airport and was seen on radar about seven miles north of Millington, Md.,-about 2:20 p.m. Initially, the patrol received reports that she landed in Easton and had lunch about 3 p.m., but those reports couldn't be confirmed by witnesses, the patrol said. She was due back at Lee Airport outside Annapolis that night but never arrived. The search involved as many as 24 aircraft, Coast Guard boats and people from local, state and federal agencies. Civil Air Patrol members spent more than 600 hours in the air, covering 7,000 square miles, from dawn to dusk, searching a two-state area as far north as Summit, Del., south to Crisfield, Md., west to the suburbs of Washington and east to the At- lantic Ocean.
