Call for Papers
The 34th Annual Convention of the Parapsychological Associa-
tion will be held August 8 to 11, 1991 in Heidelberg, Germany. For
information regarding registration and accommodation: residents
of North America should contact Mrs. Laura F. Knipe, P.O. Box
797, Fairhaven, MA 02719; all others should contact Dr. Walter
von Lucadou, WGFP, Hildastr 64, D-7800 Freiburg, Germany.
Anyone may submit a paper for consideration by the Program
Committee. Papers may be about laboratory or field research,
theoretical, methodological or historical topics. the Program Com-
mittee will not consider proposals for research or papers published
elsewhere prior to the Convention. Papers reporting research in
progress, where the final paper will be completed by the date given
below, will be considered. In absentia presentations will only be
allowed in exceptional circumstances.
All contributions must be received by the Program Chairperson
by April 15, 1991 (submissions of work in progress must include
full introduction and procedure, intended analysis, and potential
interpretations). No submissions received after April 15th will be
considered In situations where the work is still in progress as of
April 15th, or where the Program Committee has required minor
revisions for acceptance, the deadline for submission of the final
version of the paper is June 1, 1991.
A paper should be equivalent to a full-length journal article. The
first sheet must have a centered title, author(s) and affiliation(s),
followed by an abstract of no more than 300 words. The text may
not exceed 12 single-spaced pages, with no more than five addition-
al pages for figures, tables, and references. Indicate exactly any
audio-visual aids which will be needed. Anyone planning a video
presentation must contact the program committee four weeks
before the relevant deadline to receive special instruction. Where
there are multiple authors, indicate which author will make the
presentation. Papers should adhere to the style of the Publication
Manual of theAmerican Psychological Association (3rd edition) or
the format used by the British Journal of Psychology.
Four copies of each submission are required. One copy must be
single-spaced and camera ready, for inclusion in the Convention
Proceedings. If convenient, three copies should be double-spaced;
if this is inconvenient, the other copies may be single-spaced. The
submission must be typed on 8 1/2 in. x 11 in. paper with minimal
margins of one inch on all sides, or if using A4 paper, as above with
a two inch bottom margin.
Some accepted papers may be incorporated in a poster session,
where summaries of the research and other materials are presented
on poster boards. Time will be allotted during the convention for
attendees to view the displays and discuss the material with authors.
Poster sessions are especially appropriate for brief papers, papers
that are particularly amenable to visual displays (e.g. demonstration
of equipment), and highly technical papers that cannot be communi-
cated effectively in a brief lecture format to a general scientific
audience. Authors who want their papers presented in a poster
session should indicate this at the time of submission. The Program
Committee may, at its discretion, designate other accepted papers
for presentation in a poster session. Poster session papers will be
included in the Convention Proceedings and in Research in Para-
psychology.
Stadthalle Heidelberg, Germany
Heidelberg is in the southwest portion of Germany, about 60 miles
from the Frankfurt Airport. The most impressive architectural work in
the city is the Heidelberg Castle, a red sandstone building overlooking
the city. The University has held a place of dominance in the fields of
law, philosophy and the sciences since the 19th century. Heidelberg has
also been important to the development of experimental and
physiological psychology: Helmholtz, Wundt and others studied or
researched there. The Euro-PA will meet on Wednesday, August 7th,
before the conference. The local parapsychology group, the WGFP,
wil I also offer a public lecture on the evening of the 7th for the citizens
of Heidelberg and a workshop on Thursday morning, August 8th, for
German students. More information will be available in the January
issue of the Newsletter.
Members and Associates only of the Parapsychological Associa-
tion may propose a symposium, panel discussion, or workshop.
Symposia are formal presentations by participants on related
topics. Proposals for symposia must include four copies of a sum-
mary sheet indicating title, chairperson, participants, order of
presentation, and proposed time allotments, up to a total of 90
minutes, including discussion periods. Proposals must also include
a full paper, prepared as detailed above, from each participant.
Panel Discussions are intended to maximize spontaneous inter-
actions of participants and the audience. Each participant's speak-
ing time is limited to five minutes. Proposals for panel discussions
must include four copies of a summary sheet including a title,
chairperson, participants, order of presentation, and time allotments
up to a total of 90 minutes, and an abstract of less than 500 words
from each panelist.
Worshops are informal discussions of specific topics and/or
informal presentations of material. Proposals for workshops should
include four copies of a summary sheet listing the title, chairperson,
any other presenting participants, type of activity, and a description
of the intended content of the workshop of less than 500 words.
Those requiring any audio-visual aids should follow the instructions
detailed above.
The Program Committee consists of Mr. Gerd H. HSvelmann,
Prof. Martin Johnson, Dr. Julie Milton, Dr. Roger D. Nelson, Dr.
Douglas M. Stokes and Dr. Deborah L. Delanoy, Chairperson. Send
proposals to Dr. Delanoy, Dept. of Psychology, University of
Edinburgh, 7 George Square, Edinburgh EH8 9J7, Scotland, U.K.

Heidelberg, Germany (Neckarstaden 24, 6900 Heidelberg, tel. (6221)-583093) from Thursday, 8 August
through Sunday, 11 August 1991. The Stadthalle is located in the center of Heidelberg in the Alstadt (old
city) on the bank of the river Neckar. Registration starts at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday morning In the
Holderlinsaal (entrance number IV). The meetings will be held in the Ballsaal. The banquet will take place
in the Kammermusiksaal, also in the same building. The Stadthalle includes a restaurant but many other
restaurants can be found in short distance from the Convention site.
Accommodation will be arranged through the Heidelberger Verkehrsverein (Convention and Visitors
Bureau, Postfach 105860, 6990 Heidelberg, tel. (6221)-10821, Fax (6221)-15108.) for a reservation fee of
D.M. 3,00. Please use the enclosed room reservation form to indicate the price class of the Accommodation
you prefer. These forms are marked "PA 91" and the Verkehrsverein will try to find you a hotel located
close to the Stadthalle. The sooner you send in this form to Heidelberg (don't forget the airmail stamp -
400 in the U.S.A.) the more likely they will be able to find you a room in your preferred class. Please do
not forget to fill in the period you want to stay. If you have special wishes regarding your Accommodation
then send this form to the Verkehrsverein together with a letter stating what you want. If you wish to share
a room with another participant you must arrange yourself which one of you is going to send in this form
ordering a double room. A cheap alternative to a hotel is the Youth Hostel (Tiergartenstrasse 5, Heidelberg,
tel. (6221)-412066). They charge less than D.M. 20 for a night. Admission with valid hostel identification
only. The Youth Hostel is a 15-minute bus ride (busline 33) from the Stadthalle. There are also two camping
sites near the city with a bus connection to the center (buslines 34 or 35).
Heidelberg is not far from Frankfurt Airport (about 60 miles). A railroad station is located in the airport and
the train connection between the airport and the city costs approximately D.M. 20 single fare. There are
also two bus shuttles between the airport and the city. The hotelbus stops at the main hotels and cost (about
D.M. 40 single fare). Travellers flying Lufthansa can use the Lufthansa bus into the city (about D.M. 55
single fare). Heidelberg lies along the Frankfurt-Karlsruhe highway and hence is easily accessible by road.
A number of parking houses are located in the center of the city. A brochure with a map of the city will be
sent to registrants, or upon request if you need it earlier.
The Convention will be hosted by the German W.G.F.P. (Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft zur Fi rderung
der Parapsychologie). In addition to the Convention the W.G.F.P. will organize activities mainly aimed at
Germans interested in scientific parapsychology. On the evening of Wednesday August 7th a non-technical
introduction on parapsychology will be offered to the city of Heidelberg. On Thursday morning, August 8,
lectures will be presented to participants covering basic methods and research findings of the areas on
which papers will be presented during the Convention. These lectures are especially intended for
participants from outside the field who lack information on recent developments in parapsychology. All
W.G.F.P. lectures will be held in German. If sufficient interest exists for such lectures from non-German
participants the W.G.F.P. is willing to organize similar lectures in English.
Registration forms accompany this announcement and should be returned before July 15th, 1991.
Participants living outside North and South America are requested to return their registration forms to: Dr.
W. von Lucadou, PA Convention, Hildastrasse 64, D-7800 Freiburg (i.Br.), Germany. Participants living In
