Region' Storm Dumps Inches on Top. of f Icy Roads Approve R- e e 2p0.110 By Marc Fisher and Ed Bruske Washington Post Staff Writers The second major snowstorm in four days blanketed the Washington area yesterday, burying roads anew, snarling traffic and spoiling Super Sunday parties. The metropolitan area awoke Sunday to light flurries,, the precur- sor to an anticipated all-night snow- fall that created a five-day weekend for thousands of area workers and schoolchildren. National Weather Service -fore- casters predicted that snow would .fall heavily throughout the night and taper off this morning, with ac- cumulations of up to 12 inches. By 10 p.m., three inches had fallen in Washington and heavy snow con- tinued to fall. Schools will be closed in most ju- risdictions throughout the area to- day. Federal workers and government employes in the District, Montgom- ery and Fairfax counties and Alex- andria will be allowed to arrive late or take a vacation day if they feel they cannot travel safely, spokes- men said. Arlington County offices will be closed, while Prince George's County planned to an- nounce its policy early this morn- ing.
