SUBJECT: Meeting with Under Secretary of the Army, 12 June 1979
1. (U) Purpose: This MFR outlines the significant topics
that were discussed during the meeting with Dr. Walter D.
LaBerge, Under Secretary of the Army, 12 June 1979. The meeting
was scheduled to provide Dr. LaBerge with an update concerning
the status of the GRILL FLAME Program as being carried out by
various Army elements.
2. (S) Following individuals were present:
Dr. LaBerge - Under Secretary of the Army
Mr. Kramar - GRILL FLAME Project Officer, AMSAA
Mr. Phillips - AMSAA
MAJ Stoner - OACSI
MAJ Watt - GRILL FLAME Project Manager, INSCOM
Two members of INSCOM GRILL FLAME Staff
Staff official from Dr. LaBerge's Office
Representatives from MIA were unable to attend the meeting.
3. (S) Dr. LaBerge opened the meeting by expressing his views
concerning the GRILL FLAME Project. He stressed that he was
vitally interested in progress that was being made; how others
felt about Remote Viewing (RV) as they gained exposure to it;
how his involvement was or was not impacting on the various pro-
grams; and, finally, he made it very clear that the project had
his support and expressed to everyone that he was prepared to
help us in any way that he could. Dr. LaBerge wants everyone to
continue looking objectively at all aspects of their respective
programs and not to be concerned about making hard decisions
until all avenues have been explored.

4. (U) AMSAA and INSCOM personnel presented very brief
updates as to the progress they were making with their
respective programs.
5. (S) Dr. LaBerge was very anxious to understand how the
training was going at SRI. Two of the individuals who have
been through the training cycle at SRI summarized how they
felt about the training. They were very positive in making
their reports. Dr. LaBerge was especially interested in how
they felt about the program and any impact it might be having
on them.
6. (S) I made the offer to Dr. LaBerge that we would like
him to try Remote Viewing and that we would gladly provide
the Interviewer and the target for the day. He felt that
would be a nice approach and we will attempt to set something
up in the near future.
