chairman of CKES, and K. A. Malima,
Tanzanian minister of economic af-

Entire text: The Eighth All-Union
Conference on the Chemistry of Col-
loids and Physical-Chemical Mechanics
concluded its work yesterday in Tash-
kent. In the course of four days,
scientists discussed timely questions
of the advancement of research which
is of great theoretical and applied
importance.
Commenting on the results of this
forum, academician I. V. Petryanov-
Sokolov, the head of a department of
the Scientific Research Institute of
Physical'Chemistry imeni Karpov and
a State Prize laureate, said: "Tak-
ing part in the conference were more
than 500 researchers representing
the largest scientific centers of
Moscow, Leningrad, Kiyev, Minsk and
many other cities of our country.
There is no branch of the country's
economy in which achievements of the
chemistry of colloids and an impor-
tant new branch of this science --
physical-chemical mechanics -- could
not find employment. Chemists of
Uzbekistan are making a great con-
tribution to this science. I should
like to single out research which is
being pursued by scientists of the
Tashkent Polytechnical Institute.
The main direction of their develop-
ments is the practical utilization
of industrial waste products, which

gineering Forces Mikhail Vasil'yevich
Zubkov has died suddenly while in
the line of duty.
M. V. Zubkov was born in 1926.
In 1943 he was called into. the Soviet
Army, and he advanced through its
ranks from soldier to general-
lieutenant of engineering forces
if: V. Zubkov devoted all his
scions life to selfless service
the Motherland and the Communist
Party, of which he was a member
1957. He took part in combat op

tions on the fronts of the Great
Patriotic War and in the defeat of
militaristic Japan, demonstrating
high leadership qualities and personal
courage in battles.
In the post-war period, he worked
productively in various responsible,
positions among the troops, and since
1978, in administrative organs of the
Allied Armed Forces of member states
of the Warsaw Pact.
He was awarded the order of the
Red Banner of Lab-or, two orders of
the Red Star, the order."For Service
to the Motherland in the USSR-Armed
Forces", third class, and numerous
medals.

received D. Regan, Canada's minister
of international trade, who was in
Moscow in connection with the hold-
