In the course of four days, scientists discussed timely questions of the advancement of research which is of great theoretical and applied importance. Commenting on the results of this forum, academician I. V. Petryanov- Sokolov, the head of a department of the Scientific Research Institute of Physical'Chemistry imeni Karpov and a State Prize laureate, said: "Tak- ing part in the conference were more than 500 researchers representing the largest scientific centers of Moscow, Leningrad, Kiyev, Minsk and many other cities of our country. There is no branch of the country's economy in which achievements of the chemistry of colloids and an impor- tant new branch of this science -- physical-chemical mechanics -- could not find employment. Chemists of Uzbekistan are making a great con- tribution to this science. I should like to single out research which is being pursued by scientists of the Tashkent Polytechnical Institute.
