Stein Deputy Director for Operations SUBJECT: Computer Terminal Installation Problems .., uff2 -024 1. As you probably know, this Directorate has been experi- encing some particularly distressing problems concerning the acquisition and installation of computer terminals. I am told 25X1 that there is currently a backlog of over DO requests out- standing, some of which date back more than a year. Furthermore, I understand that the Directorate of Operations is currently slated to receive no computer terminals in FY 1982 in spite of the 25X1 fact that terminals are to be acquired and installed elsewhere throughout Headquarters by the Office of Data Processing. 2. I am aware of some of the problems facing the DDA con- cerning terminal installations and realize that you have a program underway to obtain some relief. The dimensions of the problem are becoming so staggering, however, that I fear they, combined with the continuing new terminal demand, may outstrip your ability to catch up anytime soon. If there is anything we in the DO can do to help alleviate this problem, please let me know. 3. Regarding the problem of terminal allocations, I am, quite frankly, sur ed to learn that the DO is not slated to 25X1 receive any of the terminals authorized in the FY 1982 ODP budget. My staff informs me that in February 1980 we projected to 25X1 ODP a requirement for terminals during this period. While it is understandable that ODP could not fully support a request for 25X1 81 terminals for the DO when it can purchase onlyfor the entire Headquarters, it is dismaying that the DO 3C= Io receive 25X1 none of the Some proportionate distribution of the 66 across all Directorates would seem to be a more equitable arrangement. 25X1 25X1 ALL PORTIONS CONFIDENTIAL CONS DENT IAL Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/08/27: CIA-RDP95-00972R000100160006-8
