SUBJECT: RECON GUARD Status
1. In mid-June each of our organizations completed testing
and evaluating the RECON/GUARD Prototype System. I have been told
unofficially that these tests were successful and that an
Operational System would provide a secure "gateway" between our
computer centers and any network--COINS or otherwise. Further, I
have been told that the Operational System would be built on the
architectural principles proven in the Prototype and retested.
Cur 1 the test equipment has been disconnected and moved to
the Center staging area.
2. As requested, the CIA Member to the Information Handling
Committee plans reporting on RECON GUARD to the Chairman before
the Committee's next meeting. To make this report, the CIA Member
requires your official evaluation of the Prototype System and the
test results by COB 20 July 1984.
