I called Hugh Montgomery, D/INR, about query
on documentation for Thai approval for the establishment of
Bangkok Bureau. It seemed to tickle his funny bone that all
we had on file was a June 1966 cable saying
He said he would check with the
Bureau of East Asian and South Pacific Affairs to see whether
there was anything on file to indicate approval had been
sought and received. If not, we will have to ask Art to see
what can be done post-facto to et some authority from the
Thai Foreign Ministry, which seems to think would be
no problem.
