SUBJECT: Schedule of the Remaining ARGON
Packages for 1963--Mission 9059.A
1. The next ARGON mission, 9059A, is scheduled
for 25 October. The Board in considering the scheduling of
ARGON missions in the recent past has made it perfectly clear
that they would consider the results of the last mission, 9058A,
to see whether it was sufficiently successful to warrant another
shot, namely the use of 9059A.
2. The Committee on Overhead Reconnaissance
on 19 September received a briefing from Army on the results
of 9058A, discussed the question of the need for another shot,
and concluded preliminarily in the affirmative. A paper on this
subject, however, will be considered at the meeting of COMOR
on 26 September and submitted to the Board for consideration
on 2 October. The Chairman, COMOR has checked with the
Deputy Director of NRO and been advised that this schedule is
in the proper timing for decision making in the NRO.

3. It is true that there is a package backup for the
Mission 9059A. However, it is most unlikely that the Board
would recommend substitute in view of the fact that on
Wednesday, 25 September, the Board will consider a COM.OR
paper which recommends a reduction in the number of J
packages currently scheduled for the remainder of 1963. This
