+ UNREST IN ARMENIAN SSR - On 24 February, in response to reports of
unrest in the Armenian SSR, Nicosia Bureau began an open speaker watch on
Radio Yerevan and Radio Baku in the neighboring Azerbaijan SSR.
Monitoring of Radio Yerevan was expanded from 30 minutes to 15 hours a
day and of Radio Baku from 45 minutes to 10 hours a day, covering
broadcasts in Armenian, Azeri, Arabic, Persian, and Russian. Nicosia
monitored Gorbachev's message to the peoples of the two regions read over
the local radios and television and criticism broadcast by Radio Yerevan
of TASS reporting on the events in the region. (UtAIU0)
