Spain To Propose Africa-Europe Gas Pipeline

((Text)) Spain will propose the construction of a gas
pipeline to join Algeria, Morocco and Nigeria to Europe across
the Straits of Gibraltar as an alternative to the planned
Euro-Siberian pipeline. According to official sources in
Madrid Spanish Minister of Industry and Energy Carlos Solchaga
will present his proposal this coming Saturday before the
international energy agency in Paris. The Spanish minister will
be meeting with his American counterpart in the French capital
on Saturday, and the two of them will set out the details of the
project at a press conference.
The pipeline would go directly from Spain to
Morocco and then divide into branches to Algeria and Nigeria,
two countries with immense natural gas deposits which, according
to the experts, are of the opinion that there are no technical
obstacles to the construction of a pipeline across the Straits
of Gibraltar at a depth of some 500 meters below the surface of
the sea. This plan could be an alternative to the pipeline between
Europe and Siberia. which is due to come into service in 3 years'
time and which has
