The Director of Central Intelligence
Washington, D.C. 20505
National Intelligence Council
MEMORANDUM-FOR: Chairman, National Intelligence Council
Vice Chairman, National Intelligence Council,
FROM: Charles E. Allen
National Intelligence Officer for Warning
SUBJECT: Peripheral Warning Issues
The following warning issues developed-by the National Warning Staff are
somewhat marginal and fall below the threshold for our Bi-Weekly. I thought,
however, that you should be aware of them.
b. South Korea. South Korean student demonstrations are taking on a
decidedly more anti-American slant. On 18 May, a USAF tactical vehicle
with four American military passengers was caught in heavy traffic in
the vehicle was attacked by students with "sticks and clubs"
and a Molotov cocktail was thrown; the vehicle escaped with little
damage. Potentially, however, the incident could have resulted in the
death of some of the Americans, with all the attendant political fallout.
c. North Korea. The information regarding the deployment of the
North Korean SA-5s will almost certainly soon become public knowledge.
