Recent press reports have detailed the expulsion of
close to 50 Soviet officials from France on espionage
charges. They have also raised questions regarding the
death of French Lt. Colonel Bernard Nut, who is described
as a French intelligence officer. These reports have
been of particular interest to those Professional Staff
Members of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence
who follow counterintelligence matters.
On this basis, I would be particularly interested in
arranging a staff level briefing regarding these subjects
in the near future, and have been advised that a letter of
request is required in advance. I hope that this letter
is sufficient to serve that purpose.
Please have your staff coordinate with Jean Evans at
224-1774 in arranging this briefing.
