factu red In January, 1959, covering the production of
most USSR factories showed the following limits of
variation: free nicotine. L 4 to 26. 3 mg; total nicotine,
10. 8 to 43. 5 mg-, ammonia. 0. 0 to 6. 1 mg; pyridine,
2. 9 to 21. 1 mr, 2. 4 dinitraphenylhydrazone, 12. 5 to
45 0 mg~ acetic acid. 4. 3 to 74, 0 mg-, and pH 4. 4 to
7. 0. It is concluded that raw tobwacco quality can be
objectively ch4racterized by determining In its smoke
