The Joint Congressional Committee on Atomic Energy, which has just made a trip to Africa, has returned, together with Mr. who accompanied the group. Mr. feels that the trip was eminently worthwhile, and within 25X1A the bounds of modesty feels that he was able to be of considerable assistance to the Committee. Congressman Holifield (D. , Calif. spoke very highly to me of I I contribution. 2. In the name of the Director I have suggested to Mr. Cole that we would like to bring him up to date on developments in the atomic energy field which have occurred during his absence. He informed me that he would prefer to be briefed alone without any other members of the Committee initially. Senator Hickenlooper was also appreciative of our invitation for a briefing, but in view of Chairman Cole's statements we will have to brief the Senator after the Chairman. 4. The Director has approved contacting Speaker Martin and Dr. Judd in his name to arrange for whatever briefings they may desire prior to their trips abroad. Dr. Judd is returning to Washing- ton the week of 12 October and is not planning to go abroad until early in November.
